All Cuban provinces restored to the island’s electrical system

by Ed Newman

Cuba’s Ministry of Energy and Mines reported this Wednesday that all provinces are once again connected to the National Electrical System (SEN), following a partial power outage in the western region that occurred in the early morning hours.

The Ministry confirmed that the territorial connection has been fully restored, which will allow progress in the process of stabilizing and normalizing electrical service throughout the country.

The resumption of operations and stable generation at the Cienfuegos Thermoelectric Power Plant (CTE) in south-central Cuba and the units of the Energás plant in western Cuba support the progressive reconnection of power grids in Havana and other provinces still affected by the blackout.

In the capital, more than 80% of substations have regained power, although actual coverage depends on a sustained increase in electricity generation.

The Mariel substation is now energized, facilitating the commissioning of units at the Mariel energy hub and in Santa Cruz del Norte.

The capital city’s electric company reported that 136,133 customers now have service, representing 15.8 percent of the city’s total, equivalent to 91.11 megawatts.

In addition, essential health services and seven key water supply systems have been restored. Photovoltaic solar parks have also begun generating power, supporting the national recovery.
