ALBA-TCP condemns U.S. act of piracy against Venezuelan oil tanker

by Ed Newman

The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA-TCP) condemned the US government’s action in attacking an oil tanker in the Caribbean Sea. The organization reaffirmed its full support for the people and government of Venezuela in the face of what it described as a “direct attack” on their sovereignty.

The ALBA-TCP stated that this incident adds to the criminal dispossession of the Citgo company, revealing a plundering strategy aimed at appropriating Venezuelan energy resources. The Alliance warned that this action sets an extremely dangerous precedent for international legal and maritime stability.

In this regard, ALBA-TCP firmly rejected the “imperialist aggression” and demanded the immediate return of the stolen vessel, as well as the cessation of all acts of dispossession against Venezuelan assets. It also urged multilateral, regional, and global organizations to speak out urgently against this blatant violation of international law.

For its part, the Venezuelan government denounced President Donald Trump’s public admission of the attack on the oil tanker in the Caribbean Sea as exposing a “blatant theft and an act of international piracy” perpetrated by the United States.

The Foreign Ministry emphasized that this admission confirms that the policy of aggression is part of a deliberate plan to deprive the country of its energy resources, alleging that Trump’s objective was always “to seize Venezuelan oil without paying anything in return.”

It also asserted that the true reasons for the prolonged aggression against Venezuela have finally been revealed: “It has always been about our natural resources, our oil, our energy, the resources that belong exclusively to the Venezuelan people.”

Faced with this “grave international crime,” the Bolivarian Government reaffirmed that it will appeal to all existing international bodies and defend “with absolute determination its sovereignty, its natural resources, and its national dignity.”

For its part, the categorical condemnation by ALBA-TCP of the assault and theft of the Venezuelan oil tanker reinforces the response of the countries of the Global South against the aggression and piracy of the United States.
