With the presence of Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, the main event commemorating the 65th anniversary of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) is taking place in this capital.

Approximately 240 activists from 32 countries are participating in the celebration, having made personal financial sacrifices to cover their travel and lodging expenses on the island to attend the commemoration.

The celebration is dedicated to Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, the main driving force behind ICAP’s work, on the centenary of his birth, which will be commemorated on August 13.

Attending the event alongside the president are members of the Political Bureau of the Party: Roberto Morales Ojeda, Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee, and Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Minister of International Relations, as well as Fernando González Llort, President of ICAP, among other leaders and representatives of the Party, the Government, and the solidarity movement.

Founded by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, and ratified by Law 901 of December 30, 1960, ICAP is an independent institution that develops people’s diplomacy and solidarity through Friendship Associations worldwide.

Among other functions, it has the task of promoting actions and contacts with friends of Cuba, where the organization of volunteer work brigades that travel regularly to the island plays a prominent role.
