Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel today thanked Italians Walter Massa, president of the Italian Recreation and Culture Association (ARCI); Gianluca Mengozzi, president of the Association for Social Promotion and Cooperation (ARCS); and Daniele Lorenzi, who reaffirmed their unwavering solidarity with Cuba amidst the escalating hostile policies of the United States.
Through his official account on the social network X, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba expressed: “I met with our Italian friends Walter Massa, president of ARCI, Gianluca Mengozzi, president of ARCS, and Daniele Lorenzi, who came to reaffirm their unwavering solidarity. I thanked them for their support and their work over more than 30 years in the field of culture. Thank you, friends.”
The visit of the Italian delegation, from February 17 to 22, constitutes a mission that combines cultural relations, international cooperation, and political solidarity.
This comes at a particularly difficult time for Cuba, which is experiencing a severe economic and energy crisis, exacerbated by the persistent effects of the blockade imposed by Washington and its recent intensification through an executive order signed on January 29 by President Donald Trump, which establishes tariff sanctions on countries that supply oil to the island.
ARCI, founded in 1957, is Italy’s largest social promotion organization, while ARCS (ARCI Culture Solidali) is a non-governmental organization dedicated to international cooperation and humanitarian aid.
Both entities have long been committed to developing solidarity programs with Cuba, based on the conviction that culture is an essential tool for emancipation, participation, and development.
