Spanish Rider Acosta Won the Sprint in the MotoGP Thailand GP

by Javier Perez Jimenez

Havana, February 28 (RHC) – Spanish motorcyclist Pedro Acosta won the sprint race of the MotoGP Thailand Grand Prix today.

Acosta beat the reigning champion, his compatriot Marc Márquez, in the opening round of the MotoGP World Championship, while Raúl Fernández completed an all-Iberian podium.

The race was not without controversy, as during the final lap, the stewards penalized Márquez, then the two bikes made contact, and Race Direction determined that the Catalan rider had forced Acosta off the track.

Therefore, with just one lap to go, the multiple world champion had to hand the lead back to his countryman, who never relinquished it.

In doing so, Acosta became the youngest winner of a sprint race, at 21 years and 279 days old.

Earlier in qualifying, Italian Marco Bezzecchi, who was unable to finish the sprint race due to a crash, had secured pole position for tomorrow’s feature race, ahead of Márquez and Fernández.
