by Javier Perez Jimenez

Havana, March 11 (RHC) – Today will see one of the most anticipated games of the World Baseball Classic group stage, when the Dominican Republic and Venezuela —both undefeated with a 3-0 record— face off for the Group D lead.

Although both teams have already secured their place in the quarterfinals, the game will determine the group winner and their quarterfinal opponent in Miami: the first-place team will face Korea, and the second-place team will face Japan.

The Dominican Republic arrives with an impressive offensive surge, boasting a high run production and highly effective hitting.

Dominican Republic has accumulated 34 runs in its first three games and nine home runs, including those by Fernando Tatis Jr.

Venezuela also recorded strong offensive production in the group stage, with 21 runs and four home runs.

The quarterfinals of the current World Baseball Classic will be played this coming Friday and Saturday at two venues: Ion Depot Park in Miami, Florida, and Daikin Park in Houston, Texas.

Following the quarterfinals, the semifinals and the final will also be played in Miami.
