Girona Achieves an Important Victory in the Spanish Football League

by Javier Perez Jimenez

Havana, April 6 (RHC) – Girona FC defeated Villarreal one goal to zero today in the match that marked the closing of the 30th round of the Spanish first division (La Liga).

Just 15 minutes into the first half, Girona was forced to make a change to its formation after striker Vladyslav Vanat, who had been the best player on the pitch up to that point, suffered an injury.

With little attacking play from either side, the match became bogged down and neither team created any clear chances to score the first goal.

In first-half stoppage time, Villarreal full-back Pau Navarro unfortunately inadvertently put the ball into his own net, giving the home side the lead.

In the second half, trailing on the scoreboard, Villarreal players came out in search of an equalizer, constantly attacking the goal defended by goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga, who kept a clean sheet to secure Girona’s victory.

With the defeat, the Yellow Submarine closes the day in third position with 58 points, just one ahead of Atlético de Madrid, who are in fourth place, in a tournament led by FC Barcelona with 76 points.
