On a windy morning that demanded more than technique, the team responded. Cuba won silver and bronze medals this Friday in the penultimate round of canoeing at the II Junior Pan American Games.

From the very first moment after the start, the K4-500m boat placed second, which they later achieved with a time of 1:26.36 minutes, surpassed by Argentina (1:24.10) and relegating Chile to third place (1:26.51).

“The four of us agreed before starting: we had to row hard at all times to reap the rewards of such hard training in La Coronela and at the training base we had in Hanabanilla.”

Geduar González, one of the four members of the boat.

The remaining three were Julio César Suárez, Carlos Abreu, and Anthony Lamadrid.

Although victory was a matter of seconds, the silver medal was a reflection of impeccable strategy and courageous execution.

As the sun barely rose over the horizon and the wind continued to blow strongly, it was time for the women’s K4-500 meters, which finished third (1:41.45 minutes).

Every maneuver required surgical precision. The team took second place in the first 250 meters with a time of 48.49. But they lost ground in the final stretch.

The quartet consisted of Lismary Bombino, Sujailis Sardiñas, Melani Torres, and María Álvarez.
