PSG Takes the Lead in the Champions League

by Javier Perez Jimenez

Havana, April 8(RHC) – Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) defeated Liverpool 2-0 at home today in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, but missed opportunities to seal the tie.

In a Parc des Princes stadium buzzing with celebrations for PSG’s dominance, the Parisians secured a victory with goals from Désiré Doué in the 11th minute and Khivicha Kvaratskhelia in the 65th, their fifth and eighth goals of the tournament, respectively.

Doué himself, Ousmane Dembélé, and others failed to capitalize on clear chances to score and further tip the tie in PSG’s favor. The second leg will be played next Tuesday at Anfield.

The quality of Liverpool’s players was barely noticeable on the pitch, with the exception of Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili and his saves, highlighting the poor form of the historic English club.

The Parisians, meanwhile, lived up to their status as favorites, as the defending Champions League champions.
