The dream of what has been Patria is consolidating and growing

Rosa Miriam Elizalde, coordinator of the Patria Colloquium, said in an exclusive interview with the Cuban News Agency that the dream of what has been Patria is consolidating and growing.   The project is just beginning, with better coordination, experience, and a strong allied network.

The recipient of the José Martí National Journalism Prize for Lifetime Achievement recalled that in the early years, Patria was a nascent project. Now, many conditions exist for better coordination, and the objectives and horizons are clearer after these five years of exploration and meetings, she noted.

“The dream of what Patria has been taking shape.  At least we now know we have a home, a space.  It’s a beautiful place, and it greatly fosters what we’ve dreamed of for Patria: that it be not only a space for acquiring communication skills, although that’s part of it, but also a technology fair for the South, a space to present successful communication experiences.

“And obviously, also training workshops, not just for a select few in the communications field, but for all our people, the provinces who ultimately need tools so they aren’t left in the dark in a world that isn’t neutral.

“Probably all social media platforms are very powerful instruments of colonization created for that purpose, although with humanity present there, there are also great opportunities for us…”  Rosa Miriam expressed.

The idea is to maintain a permanent collaborative space. Patria’s headquarters is not an office building; it’s a meeting place, a space for capacity-building workshops, and a distance learning platform that fosters collaboration among various partner institutions in the Global South. It’s a site for lifelong learning, because if there’s one constant in our times, it’s that everything changes, noted the Doctor of Communication.

This Saturday, the fifth edition of the Patria International Colloquium concluded after three intense days of panels, conferences, and workshops, solidifying its position as a robust and significant collaborative space.
