Signatures for peace, against the blockade and media terrorism from the United States are now peaceful “weapons” of Cuba, stated the ambassador of the Caribbean island in Uruguay, Lissett Pérez.

She spoke with the Prensa Latina news agency after signing the Signature for the Homeland, a process by which the population of the island and its representatives abroad reaffirm their stance against the intensification of the blockade imposed for 67 years by the U.S. government, now with threats of military aggression.

“It is a privilege to sign in support of the Cuban revolutionary process, because it means that from here we are defending the homeland and socialism in Cuba,” Pérez affirmed.

Likewise, her fellow missionaries in Montevideo added their signatures to those of thousands of compatriots in Cuba who are renewing their commitment to defending peace and rejecting Washington’s intensified aggressive policies.

“We are in the fight, in this trench we have been assigned at this time, to denounce the imperial threat that looms over us every day,” she noted.

The Cuban ambassador to Uruguay said that behind each signature lies a denunciation of the blockade, both the recently implemented oil blockade and “all the actions that are plotted and carried out from U.S. territory.”

In particular, she said, is the media terror disseminated to defame and influence people’s minds with lies spread daily against Cuba.

Pérez emphasized that her people are confronting the oil blockade by saving lives in hospitals and without abandoning development.

Cuba’s representative in Montevideo mentioned the efforts to change the energy matrix with renewable energy, produce food, and do everything possible for the benefit of the population, in what he described as the unity of the people and the government.

The ambassador summarized that this is a national effort in response to the White House’s “irrational and genocidal” policies.

She affirmed that “the people of the world understand this, and that is why the people of Uruguay are receiving such solidarity.”

“There are many expressions of support; numerous campaigns are being launched in favor of Cuba, and we are asked in every forum what can be done, how can we help; we feel the affection and support of the people, in this case from Uruguay,” she stated.

“With this signature, we are formalizing our unwavering support for the Cuban Revolution and socialism, which means social justice and a future for our children and young people,” she concluded.
