U.S. war against Cuba would be a humanitarian catastrophe

by Ed Newman

A US war against Cuba would be a humanitarian catastrophe, warned a group of children of Uruguayan exiles born on the Caribbean island.    “As Uruguayans and as Cubans by blood, heart and homeland, we warn of the extraordinary threat looming over Cuba from the United States and its unresolved imperial ambitions,” a statement reads.

“We warn of the humanitarian catastrophe that a war against an island besieged for more than half a century would mean, and we call for dissemination, denunciation, and mobilization to ensure Cuba is left in peace.”

“We are aware of the potential for a US war against Cuba, which would be a humanitarian catastrophe, and we urge people to spread awareness, denounce the situation, and mobilize to demand that Cuba be left in peace.” The group of children of exiles in the Caribbean nation during the military dictatorship here demanded that “the genocidal blockade be lifted immediately and the threats of military aggression cease before it is too late.”

The message denounces the “arbitrary and unjustified inclusion” on the list of state sponsors of terrorism, through which Washington is imposing an additional blockade against the country where they were born and raised.

It refers to President Donald Trump’s renewed threat of war coupled with the announcement of a new package of sanctions to prevent any type of foreign trade, investment, or economic presence on the island.

The group condemned the oil blockade, which impacts “the electrical system, transportation, water pumping, drinking water, food distribution and production, tourism, health services, educational continuity, and the entire economy of the country.”

The text states that the US president responded to the massive mobilizations of the Cuban people by threatening to seize Cuba almost immediately, including the deployment of a nuclear aircraft carrier to force its surrender and trample on Cuban sovereignty.

Trump’s threats against Cuba are an affront to Latin America as a zone of peace and represent “irrefutable proof that the United States disregards the sovereignty of nations, intending to subjugate by force any country that does not obey it,” emphasizes the group of children of Uruguayan exiles in Cuba.
