Havana, May 8 (RHC) – After leading Latin America with two titles and a pair of silver medals, Cuba will go out today to expand the haul with world champion Gabriel Rosillo (97 kg) in the Pan American Wrestling Championship, based in the United States.

Rosillo, Olympic bronze medalist in the same Greco-Roman wrestling division at Paris 2024, will also be seeking qualification for the next world championships.
The Cuban wrestler’s journey begins in the quarterfinals against the winner of the match between Brazilian Ronisson Brandao and Colombian Jhony Arias.
Thursday, the first day of the tournament scheduled to run until May 10, saw gold medals awarded to Luis Orta (67 kg), the Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion and bronze medalist four years later in Paris. Orta secured his fifth continental title and maintained his undefeated record with 19 wins and no losses.
The other Cuban title on the first day of the tournament went to Kevin de Armas (60 kg), while Daniel Gregorich (87 kg) and Oscar Pino (130 kg) each earned silver medals.
In addition to Rosillo, Yaynelis Sanz (57 kg) and Greili Bencosme (50 kg) will also compete today.
The United States dominated the medal count at the start of the competition, winning the other six finals in the classic style.
