In recent weeks, President Trump has made increasingly belligerent and warlike remarks about “taking over” Cuba; comments about regime change and a violent military invasion that he would carry out whenever he wanted and without any congressional approval.
A delegation of union leaders and political activists from nine different unions has just returned from an International Solidarity Conference held in Havana. They brought with them $100,000 worth of humanitarian medical aid.
Conditions in Cuba have deteriorated drastically since the imposition of an oil embargo on January 3; a situation that will worsen with the International Executive Order issued by Trump on May 1, which prohibits any individual, nation, or entity from providing the small island nation with food, medicine, energy, and other vital resources.
As a result, the 800 delegates attending the conference (200 of them from the United States)—representing 38 countries—pledged to exert maximum pressure on Washington through urgent protest actions to end the blockade.
The protest and denunciation event in Los Angeles, under the slogan “No War on Cuba,” will take place on the following date and at the following location:
Saturday, May 9 | 6:00 p.m.
Headquarters of the International Association of Machinists
1261 Avalon Blvd., Wilmington, CA 90744
Speakers will include local union leaders and representatives of political organizations from the Los Angeles area, as well as David Ramírez from the Cuban Embassy in Washington, who will participate via video link.
