Che’s daughter says most Cubans know who their enemy is

Dr. Aleida Guevara stated that the majority of the Cuban people “know perfectly well who their enemy is” and remain faithful to the principles of the Revolution, amid threats of aggression from the United States.

In an interview published this Friday by Agencia Brasil, the daughter of the legendary Argentine-Cuban guerrilla fighter Ernesto “Che” Guevara (1928-1967) maintained that a large part of the Cuban population clearly identifies Washington as responsible for the difficulties facing the Caribbean nation.

“Fortunately, the majority of the population knows perfectly well who their enemy is,” declared the pediatrician, who visited Brazil this week to participate as a guest at the IV National Meeting of the Small Farmers Movement.

The Cuban doctor also warned of the fear in the Caribbean nation of a possible US military action, amid the “unpredictable” behavior of President Donald Trump.

“We are not fools. We know they can attack us at any moment because they are crazy,” stated Aleida Guevara, who was traveling back to Cuba over the weekend. “The worst thing that could happen to me would be for my own country to be attacked and for me not to be there,” she expressed.

During the interview, she also denounced the consequences of the tightening of the economic blockade imposed by the United States, which has kept Cuba from receiving oil for months and is causing severe disruptions in various aspects of economic and social life.

According to her account, some cities have gone up to 72 hours without electricity, a situation that hinders food preservation and the daily operation of basic services.

Despite these difficulties, the daughter of Che asserted that US policies have not managed to break the social cohesion of the island. “The United States has always promoted unity in Cuba because of its idiocy as an enemy, its lack of intelligence,” she said.

In the interview with the Brazilian media outlet, Che Guevara’s daughter also highlighted the international solidarity Cuba has received in this context, especially from Latin American social and peasant movements, and noted that participants in the agricultural meeting in Brazil continue to see the island “as a beacon of freedom and human dignity.”

Aleida Guevara also praised the support provided by the Mexican government, led by Claudia Sheinbaum, as well as the energy aid sent by Russia and the financial backing from China.

During the interview, she also evoked her father’s legacy and affirmed that his figure remains deeply present in Cuban society. “We couldn’t enjoy his company, but even so, he is there. His presence is very strong in Cuba.”

She also recalled that, after the guerrilla fighter’s death, her family did not receive special privileges and lived in the same material conditions as the rest of the Cuban people, following the teachings and principles defended by Che.
