Cuba reaffirms it does not reject or obstruct humanitarian aid

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez has reaffirmed that the island does not reject or obstruct aid offered without conditions, however cynical or ridiculous it may seem.

In a post on social media, the island’s foreign minister stated that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio constantly and intentionally misrepresents the figures and responses from Cuba regarding the amounts of aid announced by its government since November of last year.

“It took them more than six months to finalize the shipment of the first aid package, valued at $3 million USD. Nearly four months to send a portion of the announced $6 million USD.   How long might it take them to finalize the $100 million USD shipment?   What can $100 million mean when their economic blockade and energy embargo cause annual losses of more than $5 billion?”

He added that the United States has no real interest in providing the aid and that so much lying and delaying only demonstrates the blatant propaganda nature of these announcements.

“Wouldn’t it be more humanitarian to lift the illegal energy embargo?” asked the Cuban foreign minister.
