Cuba warns of Washington’s attempt to silence the left

by Ed Newman

Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Cuba’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, warned on Monday that the summit announced by the United States for this week will be an attempt to legitimize policies like Operation Condor, which was based on similar pretexts.

Through his account on the social network X, the foreign minister indicated that the meeting will have a McCarthyist slant and “will logically rest on lies.”

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio convened some 60 countries for the meeting, to be held in Washington, D.C., to address the risks of what that government calls transnational far-left terrorism.

Bruno Rodríguez pointed out that “they will attempt to substantiate the existence of supposed dangers instigated by progressive forces, leftist organizations, social movements, and all those who fight against oppression, exploitation, racism, war, intervention, and imperialist brutality unleashed by the current U.S. government.”

The head of Cuban diplomacy added that the summit is a step toward restoring intimidation.

Bruno Rodriguez also warned about the intention to legitimize policies like Operation Condor, which, with U.S. assistance, coordinated the dictatorships of the Southern Cone to practice state terrorism in order to eliminate opposition voices, primarily from the left.
