The enduring relevance of the solidarity and internationalist thought of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz was the focus of a meeting held in this city dedicated to exploring his legacy, as part of the commemorative activities for the centennial of his birth, on August 13th.
Sponsored by the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), the event brought together academics, historians, students, leaders, and foreign guests to discuss the vision of solidarity, cooperation, and unity among nations developed by the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution.
Filiberto Mourlot, a professor at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Oriente, highlighted Fidel Castro’s vision of solidarity and fraternity toward other peoples, both during the revolutionary struggle and after the triumph of 1959.
He referred to Castro’s vision of a cohesive Latin America in the face of challenges that transcend national borders and noted the enduring relevance of this thinking given the complex political and economic scenarios facing the region.
Georgia Bernetti, an Italian university student and member of the “Fidel Centenary” Solidarity Brigade, told the Cuban News Agency of her willingness to continue promoting initiatives to support Cuba and foster closer ties between young people from both countries.
The young woman emphasized the admiration that the Commander-in-Chief inspires among young people in her country and considered that his thinking remains relevant for those who defend a society based on justice, solidarity, and cooperation among nations.
As part of its work, ICAP develops spaces for exchange with solidarity organizations and movements from different countries, a practice linked to the internationalist conception promoted by Fidel Castro Ruz.
