Irish Football Club Launches Jersey in Tribute to Cuba

by Javier Perez Jimenez

Havana, August 17 (RHC) – Irish football club Bohemian FC today unveiled its third kit for 2026, designed in collaboration with legendary British band Massive Attack, in a tribute woven with threads of history and solidarity towards the Cuban people.

The garment evokes traditional Cuban sports attire and celebrates the ties that have bound Ireland to the island for generations.

Thirty percent of the profits from sales will go directly to Cuba Vive and MediCuba Europe, organizations that support a healthcare system crippled by shortages caused by the U.S. government’s embargo with medicines, medical equipment, and solar energy systems.

The design features the lone star of the Cuban flag on the collar, khaki and black stripes running down the body of the shirt, and excerpts from Ernesto “Che” Guevara’s historic speech at the Afro-Asian Solidarity Conference in Algiers in 1965.

The iconic image of Che created by Dublin artist Jim Fitzpatrick appears along the bottom hem, while below the collar is a phrase attributed to the guerrilla fighter’s father: “The blood of Irish rebels ran in my son’s veins.”

The initiative is complemented by two short films that delve into the connections between anti-colonial resistance, football, and music, which Bohemian FC envisions as an explicit statement against the US embargo on Cuba.

Daniel Lambert, the club’s commercial director, stated that the collaboration aims to “raise awareness of this grave injustice and raise funds to save lives on the island,” in a gesture that reaffirms the club’s tradition of merging sport and social causes.
