Havana, September 7 (RHC) – Cuban Raidel Martínez earned his thirty-ninth save of the season today, in a 6-3 victory for the Yomiuri Giants over the Chunichi Dragons in the 2025 Japanese Professional Baseball League.

At Nagoya’s Vantelin Dome, the lanky right-hander and closer from Pinar del Río, who earned his ninth save in nine consecutive outings, allowed two scoreless hits in one inning of relief, in which he struck out a pair.

He moved four saves away from tying his career high in the Japanese circuit.

He also improved his ERA to 1.30, tying Shinya Matsuyama of the Chunichi Dragons for the Central League saves lead.

Meanwhile, Yumurino first baseman Ariel Martínez failed to make a pinch-hit appearance, lowering his batting average to .174 in his club’s 2-3 Nippon Ham Fighters loss to the Orix Buffaloes at the Kyocera Dome in Osaka.

Fellow Cuban Dayán Viciedo, who is playing in Japan without sponsorship from the island’s federation, went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles, a run scored, and an RBI in the DeNA Stars’ 3-2 win over the Yakult Swallows.

The Villa Clara native’s batting average rose to .283 and his RBI total to five.
