Cuban president assesses defense preparedness in Havana municipality

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel participated on Friday in preparedness activities to confront potential threats at the Cubanacán Zone Defense Council (CDZ) in the Playa municipality of the capital.

As president of the National Defense Council, the president observed the results of the decision to prioritize defense preparedness as an essential task in the current context.

Díaz-Canel highlighted the progress achieved with the strategy of working with organizational structures designed for wartime in times of peace, which allows for faster solutions to be found within the communities themselves, the Presidency reported on its website.

He directed the use of available spaces in Cubanacán to produce food, both by organizations and families, and to create water storage facilities in areas where distribution is slower.

The Cuban leader called for addressing other issues, such as cash payments to retirees, promoting digital payments, and combating price gouging. Regarding solid waste collection, he noted that the municipality will see improvements with the addition of new equipment, such as trucks and bins.

In the dialogue, which brought together all the presidents of the Playa Local Development Councils (CDZs), Díaz-Canel emphasized the importance of implementing the 176 economic and social transformations, with a focus on strengthening municipal autonomy.

He stressed that in each territory, inactive productive capacities must be identified and alternatives sought to put them into operation, so that state and non-state economic actors contribute to local development.

Cuba’s president reiterated that all actions must be guided by social justice, preventing the increase of inequalities and paying special attention to vulnerable people.

Also participating in the meeting were Esteban Lazo, President of the National Assembly of People’s Power; Roberto Morales, Secretary of Organization of the Communist Party of Cuba; and Bruno Rodríguez, Minister of Foreign Affairs. as well as Generals Álvaro López Miera and Lázaro Alberto Álvarez Casas, ministers of the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Interior, respectively.
