Havana, Sept 1 (RHC) – Cuban Raidel Martinez earned his fourth win of the season today by pitching a flawless inning to lead the Yomiuri Giants to a 4-3 victory over the DeNA Stars.
Martínez, who hadn’t won a game since July 24, retired all three batters he faced from the mound at the Kyocera Dome in Osaka, improving his record to 4-3 and lowering his ERA to 1.47, according to the website baseballjaponés.com.
For DeNA, Dominican Jerar Encarnación went 1-for-4 with a strikeout, lowering his batting average to .287. Venezuelan José Ruiz took the loss, allowing one run and two hits in two-thirds of an inning, dropping his record to 1-2 with a 3.29 ERA.
In other games, Dominican Franmil Reyes went 0-for-2 with a walk in the Nippon Ham Fighters’ 2-1 victory over the SoftBank Hawks at Es Con Field in Hokkaido.
For SoftBank Hawks, Cuban Liván Moinelo took the loss, allowing two runs (one unearned) and three hits in eight complete innings. He now has a 3-1 record and a 0.62 ERA.
At the Vantelin Dome in Nagoya, Dominican Sandro Fabián drew three walks, struck out once, and scored one run in the Hiroshima Carp’s 5-1 victory over the Chunichi Dragons. His batting average is now .223.
For Chunichi Dragons, his countryman Miguel Sanó went 0-for-4 with a strikeout, lowering his average to .225.
