“History has made Cuba an international symbol of independence, of rebellion against oppression and injustice, and of solidarity; values that remain fully relevant today,” Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez stated.
“We believe that Cuba is not alone, that the Cuban cause awakens great international solidarity,” the foreign minister asserted on the podcast Cuba Analysis.
Bruno Rodríguez expressed his confidence that the international community will prevent any U.S. military adventure against the island and will force an end to policies that also cause deaths, such as the brutal energy blockade and the prohibition of essential goods entering the country.
He added that there is a well-established international consensus rejecting this policy of hostility, expressed not only in the annual vote on the resolution demanding that Washington unconditionally end the blockade, but also in numerous demonstrations around the world and within the United States itself.
The island’s foreign minister emphasized that Cuba can speak with absolute freedom, pursue a completely independent foreign policy, and is frequently recognized for directly addressing issues that concern the majority of UN members.
This was the case last July, when the issue was examined outside the regular agenda and representatives from all regions delivered numerous speeches against a military adventure on the island, while also demanding an end to the energy blockade.
The top diplomat warned that allowing a superpower to blockade and attempt to destroy a small, sovereign nation in order to change its political system would create the conditions for the same to happen to any state in the world.
Therefore, he maintained his conviction that humanity needs a broad consensus to halt the deterioration of the international order, which is leading the world toward a situation that was thought to have been overcome many years ago: conquest, plunder, and the proliferation of extremely lethal weapons.
Regarding the recent report titled “Cuba, the Capital of 21st-Century Communism,” Rodríguez denounced the document, calling it mendacious and ridiculous, for combining false claims and manipulations with an extraordinary lack of rigor.
Behind this text, he warned, lies a very serious purpose: to justify military aggression against Cuba, to attempt to legitimize collective punishment and the crime of genocide, and to resort to repression against U.S. civil society organizations.
Cuba’s foreign minister reflected that, despite temporary shifts to the right, there is a historical accumulation favorable to progressive and social movements.
Bruno Rodriguez emphasized that no political juncture or ephemeral government will be able to break Cuba’s deep ties with the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean; ties that, he asserted, will continue to develop positively.
