Cuban Ambassador Damián Cordero recently met here with Murtaza Solangi, spokesman for Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, to discuss issues of mutual interest and strengthen relations between the two countries, according to diplomatic sources.
During a meeting at the Cuban Embassy in Islamabad, Cordero thanked the high-ranking Pakistani official for his visit, according to information sent to Prensa Latina.
In a reciprocal gesture, Solangi stated that it was an honor to visit the mission of the Caribbean nation and emphasized that the Cuban people were the first to arrive and the last to leave during the 2005 earthquake.
The meeting, held in a cordial and respectful atmosphere, focused on analyzing issues of mutual interest and ways to strengthen bilateral relations in all sectors, according to the Cubaminrex website.
During the meeting, Cordero informed the presidential spokesperson about the difficult situation facing Cuba, stemming from the intensification of the multidimensional blockade imposed by the United States government, coupled with an energy embargo and military threats.
For his part, the presidential spokesperson thanked him for the information received and, in his capacity as a political analyst, presented the Cuban ambassador with a book he had authored.
At the end of the visit, the Pakistani presidential spokesperson toured the photographic exhibition at the embassy commemorating the centenary of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro.
He also noted the donations of medical supplies that Pakistani doctors trained in Cuba organize to send to the island, a gesture he greatly praised.
