Cuba condemns Israeli attack in Doha, Qatar

The Cuban government has expressed its strongest condemnation of the attack perpetrated by Israeli forces against the Hamas headquarters in Doha, calling it a flagrant violation of international law and Qatari sovereignty.

Through the social media platform X, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez denounced the Israeli operation as a “new Zionist extrajudicial execution” and a “serious threat to regional security and stability.”

Israel attacked the leadership of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on Tuesday during a meeting in Qatar, an action harshly condemned by authorities in Doha, who considered it a violation of national sovereignty.

Among the group’s leaders meeting in the Qatari capital were Khaled Mashaal, whom Israel attempted to assassinate in Jordan in 1997; Khalil al-Hayya, head of the group in Gaza, Nizar Awadallah, and Zaher Jabarin, among others.

In response, Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al Ansari called the attack cowardly and criminal because it “constitutes a flagrant violation of all international norms and laws.”

The incursion poses a grave threat to the security of Qataris and residents of the country, he stressed.

Since the start of the new cycle of violence in the region in October 2023, Israel has attacked Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, Iran, the Palestinian territories, and now Qatar.
