Havana, October 27 (RHC) – Bayern Munich’s English footballer, Harry Kane, won the 2026 Ballon d’Or at a controversial gala, according to several media outlets.

The 70th edition of the Ballon d’Or gala, held at London’s Palladium Theatre, began 45 minutes late due to traffic. Adding to the drama was the accidental leak of the three finalists for the men’s Player of the Year award hours before the event.

FC Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal was awarded the Young Player of the Year award for the third consecutive year, although he said he would have preferred his teammate Pau Cubarsí to win.

Vicky López received the award for best young female player, a distinction she dedicated to her mother, who passed away in 2018 from a brain tumor.

In the coaching categories, there was a double victory for Spain: Pere Romeu, the Barça coach, won the award for the women’s category, and Luis de la Fuente, the national team coach, won for the men’s. Unai Simón was named best goalkeeper, and Bukayo Saka received the Sócrates Award for his social commitment.

The best clubs of the year were Barcelona in the women’s category and PSG among the men; the Gerd Müller Award went to Harry Kane and Charlyn Corral, while the Ballon d’Or awards were given to Alexia Putellas and Kane.
