Cuban foreign minister confronts U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, rejecting his lies and accusations

by Ed Newman

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla and the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Mike Waltz, engaged in a diplomatic confrontation this Tuesday during a General Assembly debate regarding the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed on Cuba by Washington.

In response to the U.S. position, Cuba reaffirmed its rejection of the accusations used to justify a policy of economic strangulation against an entire nation.

The Cuban delegation — leaving their seats and standing in front of the U.S. ambassador as he tried to speak — argued that Washington is attempting to divert attention from the real issue at hand: the need to end the blockade and respect the island’s sovereignty.

“Mr. Waltz, you are lying again,” the Cuban foreign minister reiterated.

This confrontation comes on the eve of another vote on the resolution — a measure that has been presented at the UN for over 30 years — which reflects the international community’s opposition to this genocidal policy against the Cuban people.
