Argentine academic Andrés Ruggeri relaunched his book, *Latin America by Bicycle: From the Río de la Plata to Havana*, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The initiative aims to support solidarity campaigns raising funds to purchase solar panels for Cuban families.
According to the Latin American news agency Prensa Latina — which noted that the book was originally published in 2001 by Ediciones Colihue — the work chronicles a 1998 journey through 15 Latin American countries, spanning from Argentina to Mexico, before reaching Havana—a gesture intended to show support for the island.
During the presentation, held at the “Café Esquina América” in downtown Buenos Aires, Ruggeri explained that all proceeds from the sale of the book — available in digital and PDF formats — will be donated to the campaign in support of Cuba. This comes at a time of heightened hardship, exacerbated by the intensification of the U.S. economic, commercial, and financial blockade.
The author—a member of the “Argamasa” political collective and director of the “Open Faculty” (*Facultad Abierta*) program at the University of Buenos Aires—shared the stage with Leonardo Baster, Chargé d’Affaires and Head of Mission at the Cuban Embassy in Argentina.
Also in attendance were representatives from various social and political organizations, including the Darío Santillán Popular Front, the Union of Workers of the Popular Economy, *Resumen Latinoamericano*, and ALBA Movimientos.
Baster spoke about the adverse conditions the island faces due to the economic, commercial, financial, and energy war — intensified during the Donald Trump administration — and highlighted the recent support from 130 nations at the UN General Assembly for a resolution condemning the blockade. It was noted that, despite sanctions targeting governments, companies, and banks, the solidarity movement in Argentina has contributed by sending 45 sets of solar panels to families with individuals — primarily children — who are dependent on electrical medical equipment.
Following the presentation, a discussion took place on how to broaden the reach of the campaign in support of Cuba and strengthen efforts to provide ongoing assistance.
