Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, received the Secretary General of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), Moussa Batraki, this Friday. Batraki has been on an official visit to Cuba since Wednesday, October 28th.
During the meeting at the Palace of the Revolution — as reported by sources from the Presidency — the President stated that Cuba welcomes this visit with satisfaction, particularly given the complex situation the country is currently facing due to the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States. This situation has been further exacerbated by an “energy siege” and various coercive measures, which have impacted the economic, social, and family lives of the Cuban people.
Díaz-Canel expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support from OACPS member states for the Cuban resolution against the blockade, which was recently approved at the United Nations.
The Head of State reaffirmed Cuba’s interest in supporting the OACPS and its commitment to the organization’s initiatives, as well as to efforts aimed at mobilizing resources for sustainable development to combat inequality, poverty, and climate change.
Batraki conveyed greetings from the 78 member states of the organization—who, he noted, support Cuba without a shadow of a doubt—and commended the Cuban government and people for their resilience, their capacity for reinvention, and their proven endurance.
The visitor remarked that it is an honor to be in Cuba, noting that “it is in difficult times that one learns who one’s true friends are.”
The itinerary also includes visits to Cuban scientific and healthcare institutions, as well as to the headquarters of the National Assembly of People’s Power.
Batraki’s official visit continued through Saturay, October 31st. During his stay in Havana, he has followed a schedule that includes meetings with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Oscar Pérez-Oliva Fraga, as well as with officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
