Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla denounced the intensification of the U.S. economic, commercial, and financial blockade against Cuba this Wednesday during the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Meeting marking the 40th anniversary of the Declaration on the Right to Development.
According to Cubaminrex — the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — Bruno Rodríguez stated in his address that the energy blockade imposed by Washington seeks to cause extraordinary humanitarian harm and hinders all commercial relations with Cuba through secondary sanctions and pressure exerted on governments and international actors.
Cuba’s foreign minister noted that an international order is taking shape in which the U.S. government seeks to decide with whom other countries may trade and what cooperation they may maintain.
He emphasized that this scheme, based on sanctions and coercion, is unsustainable and dangerous for all peoples, as it is applied against Cuba today but could be imposed on any other state tomorrow.
The top Cuban diplomat asserted that the United States will not succeed in breaking the will of the Cuban people or forcing the nation to renounce its right to self-determination.
Bruno Rodríguez reiterated that, alongside the Non-Aligned Movement, Cuba will continue to advocate for a world where development is a universal right rather than a privilege for the few.
