Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, held an official meeting with Carolina Cerqueira, President of the National Assembly of Angola, who is on a working visit to the island.

During the meeting, the Cuban president extended his congratulations to the Angolan people on the 50th anniversary of their independence, which is being celebrated this year, the Presidential account reported on X.

Díaz-Canel emphasized that both nations are also commemorating five decades of bilateral relations, which he described as close, respectful, supportive and sisterly.

The Cuban president also expressly thanked the Angolan government for its constant support in Cuba’s fight against the US-imposed economic blockade, as well as for its support for Cuba’s removal from the list of alleged sponsors of terrorism.

For her part, the President of the Angolan National Assembly emphasized the importance of her visit to strengthen parliamentary ties between the two nations and promote the exchange of legislative experiences.

“We are convinced that the role of our Cuban brothers and sisters in Angola’s independence was fundamental,” Cerqueira stated during the meeting, thus recognizing Cuba’s historic contribution in the fight for Angolan sovereignty.
