Havana, September 14 (RHC) – Today, Cuban Silinda Morales threw the discus to a distance of 67.25 meters, valid for the bronze medal at the World Athletics Championships, scheduled for Tokyo until the 21st of this month.

The 25-year-old Morales committed only one foul on her second attempt and successfully threw the aforementioned throw in her third attempt, securing her place on the medal podium with a personal best and earning the Cuban delegation its first prize at the World Athletics event.

The heavy favorite, American Valarie Allman, dominated the event with a throw of 69.48 meters, followed by Dutch Jorinde Van Klinken with a throw of 67.50.

A day earlier, Morales qualified for the final with a throw of 65.80, giving the island its eighth medal in the women’s discus throw, after two titles: three silver medals and two bronze.

With her second world championship appearance after finishing eleventh in Budapest 2023, Silinda Morales maintained the presence of Cuban discus throwers in the final in Tokyo for the tenth consecutive time since the 2007 Osaka Games.
