Esteban Lazo Hernández, a member of the Political Bureau of the Party’s Central Committee and president of the National Assembly of People’s Power and the Council of State, held official talks over the weekend with his Angolan counterpart, Carolina Cerqueira.
During their encounter, Esteban Lazo expressed his gratitude for Angola’s unwavering support for the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States government against Cuba and for the island’s immediate exclusion from the spurious list of alleged state sponsors of terrorism.
For her part, Carolina Cerqueira emphasized the significance of her official visit to Cuba with a view to strengthening interparliamentary ties between the two peoples.
Also present at the fraternal meeting were Homero Acosta Álvarez, Secretary of the National Assembly of People’s Power and the Council of State; representatives of parliamentary committees; as well as Modesto Ricardo Gómez Crespo, Vice President of the Cuba-Angola Parliamentary Friendship Group; Luis Alberto Amorós, Director of Sub-Saharan Africa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and officials from the National Assembly’s International Relations Department.
Following the official talks, both delegations signed interparliamentary cooperation agreements between the two national assemblies and their respective administrations.
As part of her official visit to Cuba, the President of the Angolan National Assembly also held talks with executives and scientists from the Finlay Vaccine Institute, including its Director General and member of the Council of State, Yury Valdés Balbín.
Cerqueira also laid a floral wreath in honor of National Hero José Martí at the Memorial that perpetuates the Apostle’s work in the Plaza de la Revolucion.
For her part, Carolina Cerqueira emphasized the significance of her official visit to Cuba with a view to strengthening interparliamentary ties between the two peoples.
