Ansu Fati Shines as Monaco Climbs to the Top of French Football

by Javier Perez Jimenez

Havana, September 21 (RHC) – Eternal football promise Ansu Fati (22 years old) scored twice today in his Ligue 1 debut with Monaco to contribute to the 5-2 victory over Metz, which put the club from the Principality among the leaders.

At Stade Louis II Monaco, the hosts had the on-loan Spanish striker from Barcelona as their key player, putting his team ahead twice after coming on as a substitute in the second half.

Fati, who had scored in the 4-1 defeat to Club Brugge in the Champions League, scored just 37 seconds after coming on after the break and then in the 83rd minute to break the 2-2 scoreline, a lead extended by an own goal and George Ilenikhena.

With the victory, Monaco reached the fifth round of French football on 12 points, the same number as unbeaten Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Olympique de Lyon, and Strasbourg.

PSG and Olympique de Marseille were unable to play tonight due to storms in the city of Fèche.

In the other Sunday matches of the fifth round of Ligue 1, Strasbourg beat Paris FC 3-2 and Auxerre 1-0 against Toulouse, while Le Havre and Lorient drew 1-1.
