¨Cuadernos de Nuestra América¨ dedicates issue to Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro

by Ed Newman

As part of the commemorations marking the centenary of the birth of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, the Center for International Policy Research (CIPI) and RUTH Casa Editorial presented Special Issue No. 18 of the journal *Cuadernos de Nuestra América*.

Experts from the center—including José Ramón Cabañas Rodríguez, Director of CIPI; Saray Álvarez Hidalgo, Director of RUTH Casa Editorial; Carlos Tablada Pérez, President of the latter publishing house; and other guests attending the presentation—highlighted the significance of the journal and its accompanying articles. The event took place at the Fidel Castro Ruz Center in this capital city. Upon presenting the title, Cabañas Rodríguez explained that the issue in question serves as a tool for study and debate, designed to foster an understanding of the thought and foundational basis of the work of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution.

Against a backdrop of accelerated geopolitical transformations, RUTH Casa Editorial established the International Policy Collection—a series of monographic works intended to dissect the dynamics of power, security, and diplomacy that define the contemporary landscape of the 21st century.

This collection positions itself not only as an indispensable reference source for specialists in International Relations and Political Science, but also for general readers interested in the historical depth of current conflicts and those yet to come.

Under the title “¡Y Venceremos!” (“And We Shall Overcome!”), reflections by Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez—First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic—open the volume. These reflections establish a powerful discursive framework that weaves together steadfast principles with a vision for the future, serving as a beacon guiding the reader through the remaining 11 articles featured in the compendium.

The occasion also served as a fitting opportunity to present the books published in 2025 as co-editions between CIPI and RUTH Casa Editorial. Researcher Manuel Carbonell Vidal remarked on the book *Antología sobre seguridad y defensa* (Anthology on Security and Defense)—written by the late Nelson Roque Suastegui—stating: “It is of great importance, given the current phase the Cuban archipelago is undergoing, to gain knowledge regarding these issues of security and defense.”

For her part, Leyla Carrillo Ramírez—a jurist, diplomat, political scientist, analyst, and researcher specializing in international politics and law—discussed her work *Naufragio de una esperanza* (Shipwreck of a Hope). This book, her third published with RUTH, highlights the measures adopted by the United States government regarding migration—a phenomenon which, she notes, constitutes not a crime, but a human right.

Concurrently, the book *Guerra híbrida y resistencia: la Unión Cívico-Militar Bolivariana* (Hybrid Warfare and Resistance: The Bolivarian Civic-Military Union), authored by journalist Elio Perera Pena, was presented.

Other works presented included *Mitos y realidades en las relaciones internacionales de estos tiempos* (Myths and Realities in Contemporary International Relations) by Ambassador Cabañas—a diplomat with over 40 years of experience in the Foreign Service of the Republic of Cuba—and the book *Cuba y Vietnam: dos pueblos hermanos y una historia* (Cuba and Vietnam: Two Brother Peoples, One History) by economist Ruvislei González Sáez.

These works enable the reader to grasp the complexity of the current geopolitical climate and to place their trust in the country’s leadership in the face of the threats and pressures currently being imposed by Washington.
