The Cuban government has accused the United States of endangering peace in the Caribbean region by illegally flying several fighter jets near the coast of Venezuela.
“We denounce the illegal incursion of US fighter jets into the flight information region of #Venezuela. We warn that these actions constitute a threat to regional peace, security, and stability.” Latin America and the Caribbean are a #ZoneOfPeace,” the Cuban foreign minister wrote on his X account.
In a statement, the Cuban Foreign Ministry noted that the US is intensifying actions seeking to justify a military aggression against Venezuela.
“The extraordinary buildup of military assets in the Southern Caribbean, the recent illegal incursions of US combat aircraft into a Venezuelan Flight Information Region, the repeated destruction of civilian vessels and the murder of their crews, and the announcement that military actions of this nature would be transferred to land areas, are complemented by the notification that the United States would be engaged in a non-international armed conflict against unlawful combatants,” the Cuban diplomatic body stated.
The Cuban Foreign Ministry warned that “a direct military aggression against Venezuela would trigger an armed conflict that would have incalculable consequences for peace, security, and stability” in Latin America.
In response to the illegal incursion of US combat aircraft detected 75 kilometers off the Venezuelan coast, the Venezuelan Ministries of Defense and Foreign Affairs issued a joint statement denouncing and strongly rejecting this action, describing it as a serious threat to the country’s sovereignty.
The illegal presence of the US aircraft was identified by the Comprehensive Aerospace Defense Command (CODAI), the body responsible for the surveillance and protection of Venezuelan airspace, and constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and the principles established in the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation.
The Venezuelan government demands that US Secretary of War Peter Hegseth immediately cease his warmongering stance, which undermines the zone of peace in Latin America and the Caribbean and endangers regional stability.
Venezuelan authorities reiterated that they will not accept intimidation or aggression from any foreign power and that they will fully exercise their right to defend national sovereignty, in accordance with international law.
