by Ed Newman

Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and President of the Republic, attended today the opening of the First International Granma-Rebelde Festival, which will run until Sunday, at the Cultural Station on Línea and 18th Street in this capital.

President Roberto Morales Ojeda, a member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the PCC, members of the Secretariat, and other political and government leaders, accompanied him.

Díaz-Canel Bermúdez gave a brief tour of the venue’s stands, where participants showcased their editorial projects through innovative initiatives from the Cuban press.

Yuniasky Crespo Baquero, head of the Ideological Department of the CCPCC, inaugurated the Festival and recalled the founding 60 years ago of the newspapers Granma and Juventud Rebelde by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, to whom the event is dedicated on the day of his centennial.
