21st Cuban Civil Society Forum against the blockade denounces impact on society

by Ed Newman

The 21st Cuban Civil Society Forum against the Blockade, sponsored by the Cuban Association of the United Nations, is underway at Casa de Las Américas in Havana.

Under the theme “The devastating impact of the economic, commercial, financial, and technological blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba on organizations and other actors of Cuban civil society,” the event aims to discuss the consequences of this inhumane policy.

The Forum will include panels that will address the impacts of the blockade on the activities of organizations linked to food, on organizations for people with disabilities, and on the health of the population.

Various specialists are expected to participate, including Aloyma Armenteros Pinillos, president of the Cuban Association for Food Science and Technology; Mabel Ballesteros López, president of the Cuban Association of People with Physical and Motor Disabilities; Jorge Cala, president of the National Association of the Blind; and Olga Agramonte, president of the Cuban Society of Hematology.

The event aims to go beyond general damage figures to detail the specific impact on certain cases and/or population groups, and to delve deeper into the pain and hardship it generates with compelling examples.
