Meeting in Rome demands the lifting of Washington’s blockade against Cuba

The unanimous call to end the unjust economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba was heard in the main streets of Rome, Italy, at the start of the 17th Meeting of Cubans Residing in Europe, which is being held this weekend in the Italian capital.

17th Meeting of Cubans Residing in Europe. Ulises Mora Baliña, Director of the Timbalaye cultural project and resident in Rome, enthusiastically told us that the march began at 2:00 p.m. at the monument to the Italian hero Giuseppe Manzini, in the city center, and moved to the headquarters of the diplomatic mission, cheering the Cuban Revolution and carrying the flags of the Caribbean island.

At the conclusion, Ambassador Mirta Granda Averhoff welcomed the event participants and stated that it would be an opportunity to exchange ideas and proposals aimed at strengthening ties with the homeland for Cubans living abroad.

17th Meeting of Cubans Living in Europe. Actions against the blockade and the aggressive imperialist policy represented by the current White House resident, Donald Trump, who on his first day in office once again included Cuba on the list of state sponsors of terrorism, will be agreed upon.

In addition, topics such as the defense of Cuba on social media, bringing fellow citizens closer to the homeland, sending donations, and the presence of the Cuban diaspora at upcoming events in the Greater Antilles will be discussed.

XVII Meeting of Cubans Residing in Europe. Participants in the IV Cuba Va conmigo Cultural Festival, which promotes ties between that nation and its artists abroad, were present at the demonstration in front of the embassy in Rome. This festival encompasses diverse expressions such as music, dance, painting, and literature. This event is being held outside of Europe for the first time.

This Rome event is taking place in conjunction with the 130th anniversary of the fall in combat of the national hero, commemorated on May 19, and the upcoming centenary of the birth of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, to be celebrated on August 13, 2026.
