Cuban president holds fraternal meeting with senior Angolan party leader

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and President of the Republic, held a meeting this Saturday in Havana with Angola’s Secretary of State Reform, Administration, and Local Government, Mário Pinto de Andrade, during which they reaffirmed the strength of bilateral ties.

According to the Cuban Presidency website, the head of state and the member of the Political Bureau of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) reaffirmed the strength of relations between the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and that Angolan political force.

The Cuban leader expressed his gratitude for the powerful speech recently delivered by Angolan President João Lourenço at the high-level segment of the UN General Assembly, the source stated.

He also emphasized that this visit continues the cooperation agreement between the two parties and highlighted the close ties that unite the two governments and peoples.

Díaz-Canel also reaffirmed Cuba’s willingness to expand and strengthen these ties, while sending fraternal greetings to his Angolan counterpart.

For his part, Pinto de Andrade asserted that Cuban internationalism gave his country independence and sovereignty, as well as unconditional support in sectors such as health and education.

He also emphasized that, in connection with the many activities being organized in Angola on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of its independence, which will be celebrated on November 11, a special tribute will be paid to Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro.
