The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela on Sunday filed a serious complaint with the international community regarding a military operation that it described as a direct threat to regional stability. According to the official statement, Trinidad and Tobago is conducting military exercises coordinated with the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and financed by the United States Southern Command, with the aim of provoking an armed confrontation on Venezuelan soil.
The Venezuelan government reported that it captured a mercenary group with direct information from the U.S. intelligence agency. The agency reportedly determined that a false flag attack is underway from waters bordering Trinidad and Tobago, or from Trinidadian or Venezuelan territory, designed to generate a full-blown military confrontation against the South American nation.
The military operation scheduled for October 26-30 constitutes, according to Caracas, a hostile provocation that threatens peace throughout the Caribbean region. Venezuelan authorities drew historical parallels with the provocations of the Battleship Maine and the Gulf of Tonkin, which served as pretexts for the wars against Spain in 1898 and Vietnam in 1964, respectively.
Subordinating Trinidadian sovereignty to Southern Command
The official statement directly targeted the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, accusing her of renouncing national sovereignty to turn the Caribbean territory into a military base subordinate to US hegemonic interests. Caracas stated that this policy seeks to transform Trinidad and Tobago into an aircraft carrier for military operations against Venezuela, Colombia, and all of South America.
“By adhering to Washington’s militaristic agenda, Persad-Bissessar intends to attack Venezuela, a country that has always maintained a policy of energy cooperation, mutual respect, and Caribbean integration,” the government document stated.
Violation of international treaties
Venezuela denounced that this military operation breaks the historic bonds of brotherhood between the two nations and violates multiple international legal instruments. The government specifically mentioned the United Nations Charter, the proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace approved by the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), and the principles of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), which protect all Caribbean peoples.
“These are not defensive exercises: this is a colonial operation of military aggression that seeks to turn the Caribbean into a space for lethal violence and US imperial domination,” the statement emphasized.
The Venezuelan document also accused Trinidadian authorities of executing innocent fishermen in the Caribbean Sea through extrajudicial actions, revealing what it described as the repressive and criminal nature of the current government. These executions would occur under the slogan “kill them all,” while Trinidad and Tobago would celebrate the summarily execution of Trinidadian citizens while opening the doors to murderous foreign troops.
Venezuela categorically rejected the threats from any government it considers a vassal of the United States. The official statement declared that the Bolivarian National Armed Forces will remain on alert and mobilized in perfect popular-military-police unity in response to this extremely serious provocation.
