On Latin American Medicine Day, Cuban authorities today congratulated the region’s healthcare professionals.
Prime Minister Manuel Marrero offered special congratulations to those who, “amidst the complexities, sustain our healthcare system and wage a battle for life anywhere in the world, becoming ambassadors of solidarity.”
Likewise, the Minister of Health, José Angel Portal, greeted healthcare workers and students.
“Thank you all for demonstrating that medicine in Cuba is not just a profession: it is a way of understanding life, an expression of solidarity, and a commitment to humanity,” he added.
On the same social media platform, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez sent a warm embrace to the 24,000 Cuban healthcare workers who continue to provide their services in 56 countries.
Latin American Medicine Day is celebrated in commemoration of the birth of Cuban scientist Carlos Juan Finlay (December 3, 1833 – August 19, 1915), discoverer of the transmitting agent of yellow fever.

Congratulations
Congratulations to Cuban healthcare workers on Latin American Medicine Day! We in the USA have the most expensive healthcare system in the world, but a life expectancy less than that of Cuba. Only the rich can afford healthcare in the USA. The US healthcare system is focused on profits, not patients. Hopefully, one day the USA will reject the profit motive and its “everything for war, nothing for the poor” strategy, and adopt the Cuban model of spreading friendship and healthcare, not war, throughout the world.
