Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Cuba’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, today supported the condemnation by the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) of the act of piracy and the attack on a Venezuelan oil tanker by the United States.
“We support ALBA’s categorical condemnation of the act of piracy and the attack on a Venezuelan oil tanker, carried out by the U.S. government, in a serious violation of international law, free trade, and freedom of navigation,” the Foreign Minister declared on his Twitter account.
In the statement, the organization asserted that the act constitutes a very serious violation of international law and a direct attack against the sovereignty of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
The statement indicated that this incident adds to the criminal dispossession of the CITGO oil corporation and reveals a plundering strategy aimed at appropriating Venezuelan energy resources, setting an extremely dangerous precedent for international legal and maritime stability.
The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America demanded the immediate return of the vessel, the cessation of all acts of dispossession against Venezuelan assets, and urged multilateral, regional, and global organizations to speak out urgently against this blatant violation of international law.
On December 10, President Donald Trump announced the seizure of an oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela, boarded by armed U.S. military personnel who immediately took control of the vessel.
