Statement from the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP)

by Ed Newman

The Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) strongly condemns the threat by U.S. President Donald Trump to impose a naval blockade against Venezuela.

This action constitutes the practical application of the “Trump Corollary” to the Monroe Doctrine, explicitly reiterated in the National Security Strategy for Our America. The pretext of combating drug trafficking and terrorism proves once again to be a facade to justify completely illegal actions that undermine regional and global peace.

We denounce this hybrid warfare maneuver, which escalates the aggression to a dangerous military level with the ultimate goal of controlling Venezuela’s natural resources and unilaterally coercing a sovereign state.

ICAP reiterates its unwavering solidarity with the legitimate government of President Nicolás Maduro and the Venezuelan people. We call upon the international community — social movements, peace advocates, parliaments, governments, and international organizations — to reject this blatant imperial act and take action in defense of sovereignty, peace, and the Charter of the United Nations.

No to the naval blockade! No to imperialist plunder! Hands off Venezuela!
