Cuba rejects U.S. sanctions against Venezuela and Iran

by Ed Newman

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez on Wednesday condemned the sanctions imposed by the United States government on individuals and companies in Venezuela and Iran.

“We reject the new unilateral coercive measures imposed by the US government against Venezuela and Iran, which are contrary to international law and aim to increase pressure and aggression against both countries,” the Cuban Foreign Minister wrote on social media.

According to press reports, the United States sanctioned 10 individuals and companies in Iran and Venezuela as alleged promoters of the drone trade and Iran’s missile program, which the White House considers a threat to the United States and its allies in the Middle East.

The U.S. Treasury Department claims the measures are intended to support the sanctions that the United Nations reimposed on Iran for its nuclear program, despite the fact that Tehran insists its nuclear program as peaceful.
