Heroes fallen in Venezuela to be posthumously promoted

by Ed Newman

The Revolutionary Government of the Republic of Cuba has announced, hours before the start of the public tribute to the 32 fallen combatants in Venezuela, the decision to posthumously promote all the heroes in military rank, as a worthy and well-deserved homage to their sacrifice.

The mortal remains of the 32 internationalists who gave their lives in defense of the sovereignty of the sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela will arrive in Havana this Thursday, January 15, where they will be received with military honors at José Martí International Airport.

They will then be transferred to the headquarters of the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (MINFAR) and will lie in state to receive the people’s tribute before being buried on Friday in their hometowns.

Due to its importance, we are broadcasting in full the statement released during the prime-time broadcast of the National Television News.

Hours before the start of the public tribute to our 32 heroes who fell in the line of duty in the sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, it has been decided, as a fitting and well-deserved tribute, that all of them be posthumously promoted in military rank.
