With the firm Martí-inspired conviction that “To create is to fight, to create is to conquer,” the national leadership of the Asociación Hermanos Saíz / Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS) issued a statement which, due to its importance, we reproduce in its entirety:
“Defending Cuba today is defending life and dignity, justice and peace, the right we have as a people to live in tranquility, without foreign pressure, without blockades or threats of any kind. From the Hermanos Saíz Association, we dream of a world in which kindness and cooperation prevail among nations, a planet where everyone respects each other, despite differences, a humanity that enjoys the beauty of the arts and solidarity. We want a present and a future without wars or threats.
“It is shameful that the U.S. government is using a ‘national emergency’ as a pretext, based on an alleged danger posed by Cuba to the security of that country, to issue a recent Executive Order, which adds to other actions to harm and suffocate our nation… Enough of the lies and the evil! Enough of this imperialist zeal, capable of bringing suffering to entire peoples!
“We call upon the artists and writers of the world, the intellectuals, the lovers of justice and life, all dignified people, to unite in favor of good, in favor of humanism, and against all manifestations of fascism and disrespect for the independence of nations.
“The children of Cuba, no matter where we may be, must remain united in defense of the life and well-being of our people, which is also to defend the good of the Homeland, the place where our roots and families are.”
