Foreign minister pays tribute to martyr of Cuban diplomacy

by Ed Newman

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez has paid tribute to Leandro Sandrino, who died in combat in Angola 50 years ago today and is considered a martyr of Cuban diplomacy.

“We remember Leandro Sandrino Izquierdo on the 50th anniversary of his death in combat while on an internationalist mission in Angola,” the Cuban foreign minister stated.

“Revolutionary Diplomacy will continue to be faithful to the legacy of patriotism, solidarity, and internationalism of the martyrs of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs (@CubaMINREX),” Bruno Rodríguez added.

Leandro Sandrino Izquierdo fell on the battlefield on February 14, 1976, while carrying out his duties as a sapper.

Currently, the military unit where he fought and the Association of Combatants of the Cuban Revolution in the municipality of East Havana bear his name.
