Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Cuba’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, denounced on social media the hostile actions of the United States against Cuban medical cooperation in Italy, stating that diplomats from that country are attempting to obstruct the work of Cuban healthcare professionals in the region.
The head of Cuban diplomacy noted that in the United States, despite being one of the world’s richest economies, only 51 percent of the population can access and afford quality medical services, while its representatives seek to impede the assistance that Cuba provides in other nations.
According to Bruno Rodríguez, inept and incompetent U.S. diplomats accredited to Cuba are promoting a smear campaign against the island’s international medical cooperation by accusing it of labor violations and human trafficking within its healthcare brigades.
The island’s foreign minister specified that these actions include diplomatic pressure on recipient governments through the use of force and threats to cancel agreements with Cuba, as well as the dissemination of false narratives that portray medical cooperation as a mechanism of exploitation.
“The purpose of this tour is to try to put an end to such a necessary and humane service.”
Havana has repeatedly denounced this hostile strategy, which has been rejected by dozens of countries in multilateral forums, recognizing the real contribution of Cuban professionals in primary care and emergency situations.
The foreign minister’s message confirms that Washington’s policy seeks to undermine the prestige of Cuban medical cooperation, while ignoring the shortcomings of its own health system.
