China’s ambassador to Havana has reiterated his country’s firm support for Cuba in the face of the intensification of the U.S. blockade and strongly condemned measures that infringe upon the sovereignty and the right to survival of the Cuban people.
During a press conference, China’s ambassador to the island, Hua Xin, addressed relations between Cuba and the United States and expressed his country’s support for the defense of national sovereignty.
“China opposes pressure against Cuba and opposes external forces exerting coercion over the island,” affirmed the diplomat, who called for the immediate cessation of all hostile and interfering actions.
The ambassador denounced that “the illegal restrictions imposed by the United States against Cuba for over 60 years have caused immense suffering to the Cuban people.”
He underscored that the recent blockade on oil imports “gravely violates the Cuban people’s right to survival and development,” and asserted that “China firmly opposes this and strongly condemns it.”
Regarding the bilateral dialogue between Havana and Washington, Hua Xin noted that China “understands and respects the talks between Cuba and the United States,” and supports the Cuban position of promoting dialogue “on the basis of equality and respect for political systems, sovereignty, and self-determination.”
“China is willing to continue collaborating with Cuba in the defense of its national sovereignty and to firmly support the island on its path of socialist development in accordance with its national conditions,” he emphasized.
The diplomat detailed ongoing bilateral collaboration projects—particularly in the energy sector—as part of efforts to alleviate the complex electricity situation currently facing the island. The ambassador also addressed China’s relations with Latin America and the Caribbean, and took issue with recent statements made by President Donald Trump at the Summit of the Americas convened by the United States.
“China has always maintained that Latin America and the Caribbean constitute a great family of independent, sovereign nations, and that they are by no means the ‘backyard’ of any country,” he asserted.
Hua Xin criticized the United States for being “stubbornly wedded to the obsolete Monroe Doctrine” and overstretching the concept of national security and using pressure to obstruct normal cooperation between China and the region. “In the international arena of the 21st century, the old scripts of the 19th century must not be repeated,” he declared.
When asked about the recent military strike launched by the United States and Israel against Iran, Hua Xin expressed China’s strong condemnation and called for respect for national sovereignty.
“The United States and Israel launched military strikes against Iran without authorization from the UN Security Council. This gravely violated Iran’s sovereignty and security and contravened the purposes of the United Nations Charter. China firmly opposes and strongly condemns this act,” he stated.
The diplomat advocated for respect for the sovereignty of all countries in the region, the rejection of the abuse of force, and non-interference in internal affairs as fundamental principles for the resolution of conflicts.
